Did you know there is actually a law about picking up your dog’s poop in Orange County?
Sec. 4-1-50. – Dogs to be curbed.
A person having custody of any dog shall not permit, either willfully or through failure to exercise due care or control, any such dog to defecate or urinate upon:
(a) A public sidewalk or parkway comprising the area between the street and sidewalk:
(b) The floor of any common hall in any apartment house, tenement house, motel or other multiple dwelling;
(c) Any entranceway, stairway or wall immediately abutting on a public sidewalk;
(d) The floor of any theatre, shop, store, office building or other building used by the public; or
(e) Any County park or beach.
The person having custody of any dog shall immediately remove any feces deposited by such dog.
(Ord. No. 2836, § 3, 5-6-75)
In other words: pick up the poop!
It is incredibly rude to not pick up the poop. Somebody walking along might step in it. And you know what? It might be you! The other thing to consider is that kids play in the areas where we walk our dogs. And you don’t want your child or your friend’s child, niece/nephew to be playing and come across poop and fall in it or somehow ingest it or any of those things! It is actually a health hazard.
Picking up your dog’s poop should be a no-brainer.
Check out this pick up the poop song, “Pick up After Your Dog” by GloZell Green to hopefully inspire some humor about the subject.
This should be common sense and should really go without saying.
To recap: pick up the poop!
